On Saturday 16 September 1820, the orderly officer informs us that in the morning he was able to observe Napoleon walking around his gardens in his dressing gown. Then, in the afternoon, the Emperor had a chair carried and placed it on the veranda from where he watched the horse races at the Deadwood military camp.
However, the Count de Montholon remained in bed; all night long he complained of “rheumatism in his head”.
